Hi everyone. We are visiting Tilos for the first time at the end of August. Although we've been coming to Greece for 20 odd years, you always end up reading as much as you can about where you're going before you get there and a lot of the info I've seen seems to infer that it's blowing a gale most of the time. I don't mind it being windy during the day, I was just wondering what it's like of a night ? We've been to Halki several times and apart from this May, it's always been roasting hot at night. Any other tips re eating / drinking etc are also welcome. :D

The only wind of any significance in the evenings usually results from overdoing the stifado. You'll find Tilos visitors a far cry from the patronising middle classed cliques of Halki

Livadia, we are neither patronising or middle class, however you might want to make sure you remove all hubcaps as a precaution prior to our arrival ;)

Hello Despina.
Think of Tilos like you would consider a meal. Your starter (or entree if you are middle class) is anywhere in Greece, your main course I assume is Chalki, now enjoy your pudding, there is nothing sweeter than Tilos. See you in the Kafenion Omonia. Oh'...the only wind currently blowing is probably in the police station (2 coppers so watch yourself) and Deflatine is compulsory issue amongst the ranks.

Kalo nas Pernas ;)

If she is going to nick your hub caps I think we can assume she is neither patronising, middle, or upper class.

  It was actually a reference to an earlier posting, and not an indication of my character - I wouldn't nick anyone's anything  Philia, thanks for the info, I'm sure we'll have a great time and might bump into you in the kafenion.

I went to Halki once, it was enough. Tilos too many times to remember. You will love it, have a great holiday. ;)

One last thing, if you like meat prepared perfectly, ask someone where you can find Bush, genuine comment.

Whatever you do don't call him Bush ! :o You'll understand when you see him. I couldn't agree more re his food, BIG portions good value and a very friendly welcome. His taverna / grill is next to Armenon and is called " Oneira " (Dreams). I was walking past Oneira late afternoon following a walk around the Island, and stopped to see what was roasting on the souvla when Pantelis ( Bush) asked me and my wife to sit down and we chatted. This was followed by a dustbin lid sized bowl full of soup, which was actually the remains of the previous nights lamb stew. I eventually finished the soup, and remarked how delicious it was..........out came another bowl with a large piece of bread just in case I starved to death ! No charge.

Nice man, he really does appreciate your custom. If you see roast pork on the souvla, get their early evening, and if you ask him for his chef's salad I hope you are hungry !

Thanks for the info georgeclooney and kebab. Must admit, as someone who will eat almost anything that looks over a hedge, Bush (or Oneira) will definately be on the list of places to eat :D
